FIND YOUR FIT
Sofla vs Raycast.
Compare Sofla and Raycast for Mac app launching. Choose between a focused visual grid and a broader command launcher with productivity tools and extensions.
Start with what you want to open
Sofla is for browsing and launching installed apps in a full-screen grid. Raycast is a command launcher with a broader set of productivity tools and extensions. If all you want is a familiar visual home for your apps, Sofla’s narrower scope may fit. If your launcher is also where you run commands and connect other tools, look closely at Raycast.
This comparison is written by Sofla. It describes product fit, not measured performance or an independent ranking. Sofla requires macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon, with download availability and installation steps here.
Compare the workflows
| Decision | Sofla | Raycast |
|---|---|---|
| Main interaction | Browse an icon grid or type an app name | Search for apps and commands |
| Organization focus | App folders, Favorites, and Recents | Commands, hotkeys, aliases, and extensions |
| Scope | Installed Mac applications | Apps plus a broader productivity toolkit |
| Built-in AI | No | AI features offered in paid plans |
| Pricing model | Free, with no account or subscription | A free tier and paid plans |
Raycast documents hotkeys, aliases, extensions, and other tools on its product website. Its pricing page lists the current free and paid plans. Raycast has a free tier; you do not need a paid plan just because you want to consider it as a launcher.
Choose a visual grid when recognition helps
An icon grid works well when you know an app by its appearance or location. Sofla lets you keep that arrangement while also searching by name. Favorites form a separate, shorter collection, so making an app easier to reach does not require moving its main-grid position.
For example, you might keep specialist utilities together in a folder and put only your browser, notes app, and editor in Favorites. Open visually when you are browsing; type when you already know what you need.
Sofla’s native app does not include an extension marketplace, clipboard history manager, or general automation system. Those are intentional limits to consider before changing your current workflow.
Choose a command launcher when actions matter
If launching an app is only one of the jobs you expect from a launcher, assess Raycast’s other tools against your actual tasks. A broader command workflow can reduce the need to move between separate utilities.
There is no measured speed, memory, or battery comparison here. Sofla’s native implementation and focused scope do not establish that it is faster than Raycast on your Mac.
You can keep both
You do not need to abandon a working command setup to try a visual launcher. Give Sofla a different opening shortcut and use it for the app grid while retaining your other tools.
